Guide for funding applicants

Before you submit your application

If you consider applying for external funding, you should familiarize yourself with the Department’s internal two-step process before submitting your application - please see below for further details.

1. Preparation: Budgeting and internal feedback

When applying for grants from IRFD(DFF), AUFF, Carlsberg, ERC, IEC, IFD, MSCA

You must always inform the Department if you plan to apply for external funding. This is to make sure that the Department is informed of the number of applications that are in the pipeline, so that all the required documents can be prepared, and the Department’s internal reviewers have enough time to give feedback on the applications.

Furthermore, the budget should be prepared in collaboration with BSS Finance or the AU Research Support Office (depending on the individual instrument), which also requires sufficient time for planning.

It is the Department's external funding coordinator Helena Skyt Nielsen who organizes the feedback process and allocates a local key person from the committee.

Deadlines, which must be adhered to in order to get support for budgeting and internal feedback, will be announced for each call.

2. Approval and registration before submission

All applications for external research funding must be approved and registered prior to submission.

  1. Fill out the approval form below
  2. Attach the following documents:
    • Budget
    • Project description
    • Any documents that need a signature from the head of department, e.g., budget confirmation, support letter, statement letter 

When your approval form has been registered and approved, you will receive a confirmation by e-mail.

Note that in order to fill in the approval form, you must be logged-in to Office365 (via VPN).
