AU data security and ECONAU research projects

If you handle personal data as part of your research, it is important that you comply with relevant legislation in relation to GDPR (protection of personal data). On the AU information security webpage, you can find an overview of what you need to know about GDPR before, during and after your research project.

However, special guidelines apply to researchers setting up research projects using data from the ECONAU project database - Please go through the comments below for each step.

If you have any questions regarding GDPR and the ECONAU project database, please contact one of the Department’s data managers or the ECONAU Steering Group

How to approach AUs data security model in an ECONAU project

Before you start a research project:

  • Steps 1-4 must be described by the researcher as specified in the overall AU GDPR guidelines in the figure - click on the figure to the left for more information.
  • Step 5: This will be stated in the ECONAU project description. Consult your project manager about how you should write it in the ECONAU project description.
  • Step 6: With ECONAU projects, only scientific research is possible.
  • Step 7: This will be stated in the ECONAU project description. Consult your project manager about how you should write it in the ECONAU project description.
  • Step 8: This will be in the ECONAU project description. On the ECONAU servers, the setup is secure and compliant with The Danish Data Protection Authorities.
  • Step 9: The risk assessment is already included in the ECONAU setup. No extra tasks are necessary in this step.
  • Step 10: Following the ECONAU guidelines reduces the risk. No extra tasks are necessary in this step.
  • Step 11: You need to register your project at the Data Protection Unit (Fortegnelsen): fortegnelse@au.dk

When carrying out your research project:

  • All steps are controlled by the ECONAU project description, ECONAU guidelines and registrations at AU's Data Protection Unit (Fortegnelsen). The project can only be changed through this setup. Please contact your project manager or datamanager@econ.au if you have any questions.

After finishing a research project:

  • All ECONAU projects have a deletion date and are stored adequately at Statistics Denmark.
  • It is important that you inform AU's Data Protection Unit (Fortegnelsen) at fortegnelse@au.dk when your project has ended.
