Head of Department Niels Haldrup

Dear colleagues,

NCRR

The National Centre for Register-based Research (NCRR) has been a centre unit at ECON for several years and is a research lighthouse at AU, nationally as well as internationally. The centre and its members have great success in publishing in top journals and in attracting external research funding, particularly from prestigious private external funds. The success also means that the centre in terms of number of employees and turnover has expanded significantly in recent years.

Over the past years, the organizational structure of the centre has been under consideration, and a decision has now been made of establishing NCRR as a separate centre unit with its own financial responsibility under the faculty of Aarhus BSS. 2022 will be a transition year, and the full move will take effect from 1 January 2023. The exact organizational framework as well as practical details have yet to be decided. It is planned that NCRR will remain in the present locations until the relocation of the entire campus Fuglesangs Allé to the University City in 2025.

The employees at NCRR and the members of the local liaison committee (LSU) have already been informed about the separation of NCRR from ECON. I would like to thank everybody at NCRR for the collaboration over the years and stress my appreciation of the great work you are doing. Both centre leader Preben Bo Mortensen and myself are happy with the new construction, and we feel confident that the new organization will provide good frames and will be positive for the future possibilities and development of NCRR as a research lighthouse.

APV

The workplace assessment survey (WPA) ended a few weeks ago, and I would like to thank you for taking the time to complete the survey. The response rate at the department was 86 %, which is very impressive. In comparison, the response rate for Aarhus BSS ended on 80 %, and the rate for the entire university was 75 %. Most importantly, the response rates for the sections are as follows:

  • Accounting and Finance: 87 %
  • Administration ECON: 92 %
  • Econometrics and Business Analytics: 93 %
  • Economics: 84 %
  • NCRR: 87 %
  • PhD: 76 %

As expected, it was a close-run contest, and the EBA section can now look forward to receiving their (cake) award soon. The results from the WPA will be announced in early April. I look forward to reading the report, and, in cooperation with employees and the local liaison committee and local occupational health and safety group, continue our focus on the department work environment.
