Niels Haldrup

Dear colleagues,
Another year has gone by, and I would like to thank you all for your great efforts and contributions to teaching, research, administration, knowledge exchange, attraction of external research funding and so on. As I mentioned at the Christmas Party last week, to appreciate all your great work I am going to reintroduce regular “Cake-celebrations” in the new year. I will discuss the details of these celebrations with the department management, LSU, and the Departmental Forum, but for sure the form is going to be different, and appreciation of outstanding efforts will be shown along several dimensions - not only including publications in the top journals.

It has been a busy year, and I see our department being well on track and moving steadily forward. The past couple of years, the department has been expanding significantly and we have welcomed many new colleagues, not least due to the attraction of numerous new external research grants. For the sake of space, I hope the expansion has peaked, but it will still be necessary to have a strong focus on the attraction of research funds since one third of our budget depends on such funds.

There are many exciting challenges and tasks awaiting in 2019 that are going to contribute to the further development of the department. I am grateful to all of you for showing great responsibility in helping steering the ship. Thanks for that.

I wish you and your families a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
