PhD courses

ECON PhD courses

The department regularly offers PhD courses in corporate finance, data-driven decision making, econometrics, financial economics, macroeconomics, microeconomics, and quantitative empirical methods. They may be held every other year, depending on student demand. Each course spans half a semester and awards 5 ECTS upon completion of all course elements. PhD students in Economics and Business Economics are expected to take at least three of these courses.

In addition to these programme courses, the department provides specialised courses on advanced topics. These may take the form of intensive sessions over a few days or half-semester courses, awarding between 1 and 5 ECTS. Intensive full-day courses are often organised in collaboration with academic networks we are affiliated with, for example DGPE and NFN. Many specialised courses are externally funded, and the department encourages faculty to include them in grant proposals.

DGPE PhD courses

The research network for graduate students in economics - DGPE - is a collaboration between departments of economics at Aarhus University, University of Copenhagen, Copenhagen Business School, Aalborg University and University of Southern Denmark. DGPE offers intensive PhD courses and a yearly PhD workshop for member universities.

See PhD courses offered by DGPE here: https://econ.au.dk/education/phd/phd-courses

DGPE courses held outside AU are external PhD courses, so you must seek approval before signing up, see: Guidelines for approval of external courses

Approval of external PhD courses

Follow the PhD school's guidelines for preapproval of external PhD courses and for upgrading AU master's courses to PhD level:

As a general rule, approximately 28 hours equal 1 ECTS (corresponds to one full day including preparation and examination).
