After ten years of operation of the current academic regulations, a thorough review has revealed the need for an update to ensure a modern and relevant degree programme in Business Administration. The most significant changes include a strengthening of the academic preparation for the bachelor’s project and adjustments reflecting potential future reforms of the master's programmes.

The new academic regulations for the HA/BSc in Aarhus also have consequences for the BA(soc.) and the Bachelor's and Master’s programmes in Business Administration with Supplementary Subject, and the academic regulations of these programmes will therefore naturally need to be adapted to the new academic regulations for HA. - Similarly, the academic regulations for the HA/BSc in Herning will also be updated.

Overall changes

The new academic regulations maintain the basic structure with compulsory and constituent courses on the first four semesters, which continues to ensure a broad Bachelor’s degree programme in Business Administration. The fifth semester remains a mobility window in which students have the option of exchange or elective courses, while the sixth semester now includes the new course Scientific Methods as well as the Bachelor's project.

New courses

Several new courses have been introduced to ensure a relevant degree programme that meets current requirements and developments. At ECON the following new courses will be introduced:

  • Economics 1: This introductory course consists of parts of the current course Business Administration and Macroeconomics. The course will provide a broad understanding of economics without too many technical details and build bridges to the coverage of the subject area in upper secondary school.
  • Economics 2: The course builds on part of Economics 1 and consists of elements of the current Business Economics and Industrial Economics. The course starts with microeconomics and then continues with industrial economics.
  • Data Science: The course introduces the students to data management and methods of analysis. The students will learn how to structure data sets and make preliminary analyses.
  • Scientific methods: The course contains scientific theory and prepares the students to write empirical assignments. The course aims to improve the students' written competences so that they are ready to write their Bachelor's project.

Perspectives for the future

The new academic regulations strengthen the position of our degree programmes as modern and broad Bachelor’s programmes in Business Administration. The changes reflect the needs of students as well as current academic and business trends, and they ensure that graduates of the future are well prepared for further studies and the business world.

The Department is looking forward to implementing the new changes in 2025 and to following the students’ development as a result of the new academic regulations.
