Her Majesty Queen Margrethe the II has appointed Professor Michael Svarer Knight of the Order of Dannebrog.

“I’m honoured by being appointed Knight of Order of Dannebrog for my contributions to research and to the society,” says Professor Michael Svarer. He continues:

“I’m grateful to Aarhus University for providing an excellent research environment that has been pivotal for my own academic career. In addition, I also highly appreciate the recognition for research dissemination. I find great inspiration in applying economic research to guide current economic policy issues, whether it is in commissions, expert groups, councils, boards or through the media. I strongly believe that evidence-based policy recommendations based on solid research improve economic policy decisions, and that Denmark is a prime example of collaboration between academia and the central administration.”

Michael Svarer has been a professor of economics since 2008. His research covers areas such as labour market economics, macro economics, and family economics, and his work is published in well-respected journals such as the Journal of Economic Perspectives, Journal of Labor Economics, Journal of Public Economics, the Economic Journal, and the Journal of Human Resources.

Michael Svarer has served as chair of the Danish Economic Councils, and is currently chair of an expert group to design of green tax system. He has been a member of the Labour Market Commission, and several Covid-19-related expert groups. In addition, Michael Svarer is a chair or member of several boards including Danske Bank Invest, Lind Foundation, Aarhus Katedralskole, and Aarhus University Research Fund Invest.
