Head of Department Niels Haldrup

Dear colleagues,

Section councils

The constitution of the section councils is now in place. I would like to thank the council members for agreeing to take on this shared responsibility of the development of our sections and the department as a whole.

As mentioned in previous correspondence, the main objective of the section councils is to provide a formal forum to support the section head in the management of the section, to ensure employee involvement in section and departmental matters as well as ensuring continuity and consistency over time, e.g. in the mentoring and feedback to non-tenured faculty.

The section council members are:

Working with recognition

Following up on the response given in the department WPA/APV (Work place assessment) in 2019, the management team in cooperation with LSU (the Local Liason Committee) and the departmental forum identified a number of specific issues to address. Based on input from the sections, LSU and the departmental forum made a joint report in which the issue of employee recognition was highlighted and suggestions for concrete actions were made. In order to guide and support the process of creating an appreciative work environment at the department, the management team has consulted a management consultant from AU HR. Moving forward, specific suggestions from the report will be implemented and a workshop (participants to be decided) is in the planning. Supporting and encouraging an organizational culture of meaningful recognition is an ongoing process for both employees and management, but I encourage everyone to think about small steps to take towards a more appreciative work environment.

ECON jobmarket openings

Search calls prior to the junior openings in January are now available online via various sources including www.econjobmarket.org. The official deadline for junior position openings will be in mid-January. As announced in a previous newsletter, there will be openings at the associate professor level with application deadline 4 January 2021. The previously announced full professor openings in “business economics” have been slightly delayed; the deadline is likely to be in January 2021 as well.

The two-module course is in English and takes only approx. 60 min. to complete.
