HoD News - 24 January 2020

Dear colleagues,

Norm system
The work on revising the norm system is now finalized. We appreciate all the constructive comments we received from the sections, Departmental Forum and LSU before Christmas. In response to these comments, we have made various adjustments to the proposal sent out before Christmas. The main changes are:

  • There will be an extra activity in the Teaching category covering course responsibility in mandatory bachelor courses with separate exercise classes. The norm will be fixed at 2 P per course, irrespective of the number of students and teaching assistants. The norm will cover the extra work related to exercises, meetings with teaching assistants etc.
  • Supervision of written projects will be divided into two activities: 1) Large written projects (0.06 P per ECTS), which cover supervision of Bachelor’s and Master’s theses, and 2) Small written projects (0.04 P per ECTS), which cover topics, internships and co-supervision of Bachelor’s and Master’s theses within business law. The norm will be slightly lower for 2), reflecting that supervision is typically less extensive for these projects.
  • There will different norms for main (3 P per student per year) and secondary (2 P per student per year) PhD supervisors, reflecting that the former, in contrast to the latter, has a number of administrative duties related to the supervision task.
  • We provide a more extensive list of examples of activities that can figure under Academic and departmental services. The list is not exhaustive, and we expect the list to expand over time as we learn about other relevant activities.

The final document on the norm system will be submitted in a separate email. Once the new registration platform, Excelsior, has been set up to our department (including the norm system), and Vipomatic accounts have been closed and transferred to the new system, you will receive more information concerning your access to Excelsior. Note that you will not need to register anything in the system going forward - all registration will be done by administrative personnel.

Job openings
The department currently has an opening regarding junior positions (assistant professors and postdocs) with application deadline on 26 January. A number of international applicants have been invited for fly-outs and are currently visiting the department. Internal job market applicants are also being considered for the positions and will be invited for job seminars.

I would like to thank so many colleagues for participating in seminars, interviews, dinners etc. during campus visits. I will encourage all department members (including PhD students), to the extent possible, to participate in job market seminars to meet with potential future colleagues.

We have had a Professorship opening in “Business Economics”, and an assessment has now finally been completed. A new Professorship opening in “Economics” has just been formulated and will be announced shortly. The deadline for applications will be 1 March 2020.
