Camilla Pisani

Staff portrait: Camilla Pisani

Camilla Pisani is PhD student at the Department.

How long have you been a PhD student at the Department of Economics and Business?
Almost one and a half year.

What is your background?
I studied Pure and Applied Mathematics at Tor Vergata University in Rome.

What are your main areas of research?
Quantitative Finance (currently working on stochastic volatility models with jumps and volatility derivatives).

What is in your experience the biggest difference between being a PhD student and being a regular student?
Being a PhD student has definitely many advantages. First of all you are more free and independent meaning that you can organize your own time. And you have the possibility to meet people that work within the same area as yourself, you give talks and teach. So there are a lot more opportunities compared to being a regular student, but of course duties and responsibilities are higher as well.

Are you teaching any classes this semester, or what are you going to teach next semester?
This semester I have been tutor for the course Financial Engineering and supervisor of a Bachelor thesis. So far no plans for the next semester, but… who knows?!

Are you planning to take part in any conferences or PhD courses in the near future?
I am going to give a presentation at the Bachelier Conference in Brussels this June.

Have you been abroad in connection with your PhD study (or where are you planning to go)?
Not yet, but I am planning to go… maybe to London, at Imperial College.

What do you do when you are not at work?
One of the biggest challenges for me at the moment is trying to learn Danish… nice but not that easy, I would say! Apart from that I like traveling, cooking, spending time at the beach or in the Botanical Garden (if I am lucky with the weather) and of course being with my friends. And if it is cold and windy outside, I just enjoy the “hyggelige” atmosphere at home with a cup of tea, a warm blanket and a book!
